Prefixes (उपसर्ग)
A prefix is a letter or a group of letters placed at the beginning of a word to modify or change its meaning. For example, meaning of base/root word 'fix' is 'to attach', meaning of 'pre' is 'before' and 'prefix' means 'attach before'. A list of most common prefixes are given hereunder.
Upsarg (Prefix) akShar yaa akSharo kaa samooh aadhaar shabd ke shuru meiN lagaayaa jaataa hai jisase shabd kaa arth parivartit yaa badal jaataa hai. Jaise aadhaar shabd 'fix' kaa arth hai 'lagaanaa', 'pre' kaa arth hai 'pahale' aur upsarg lagaane ke baad 'word - prefix' kaa arth 'pahle lagaanaa' ban jaataa hai.
